Technology : The Good and The Bad

We have discussed, in this course, the many good and bad things about technology and how we stay connected with everyone with it. It is great to receive good information, such as what has happened in Japan and how fast we can keep updated with things over there.

It is not only important that we can connect with Japan and see how they are doing, but it is important for those who are victims to be able to connect with others around them to save their lives. Because of the rapid advancement in technology, we now have cell phones that can get on social networking sites and the internet. This has, I'm sure, saved many lives of Japan and without this technology, they may not be alive now. By having this technology at our fingertips, we can easily connect with someone across the world in a matter of seconds. This is a great thing, when used for these purposes.

It is true that this technology is helpful in bad times such as what is going on in Japan, but it can also be a bad thing. When you look at a website, such as YouTube or certain news sites, what are two of the main videos you see? Seems to me to be footage of the tsunami, or Charlie Sheen. Can you even compare the two?!?!?! It is sad to see technology used like this. We must ask ourselves what is more important, learning about a natural disaster that affects the entire world, or a lunatic drug addict who just got fired from his acting job.

Technology is a great thing. But will the ways we use it affect how we learn about information and what information we receive in the future??

  1. Right now I love new technology, I love the way different things work with one touch of the screen or with one click of the mouse. I love how I can see whats going on in different parts of the world. If it wasn't for the advancement in technology the people in Egypt would still be under the same life under a dictatorship.

I am getting older and there are more things that are being created as we speak. I bought an Ipod the other day and I have to use my brother to figure out how to use the damn thing. I guess what I am really trying to say is that technology is good when you can figure it out, and it is hell on earth when you can't.
